Buffalo, NY

At a press conference held this morning in Downtown Buffalo, NY, Sundra L. Ryce announced her intention to run for the position of Chairperson of the Erie County Democratic Party.  Ms. Ryce made her announcement at the Ellicott Square Building where the Erie County Democratic Party headquarters is currently located.

Ms. Ryce is President and CEO of SLR Contracting & Service Company, Inc., a commercial general contracting firm specializing in General Construction, Construction Management and Design-Build Services.   The company which she founded in 1996 is a multimillion dollar minority and women owned business, a nationally recognized and award winning firm with estimated revenues that expect to again double in 2010 vs. last year.

At her announcement today Ms. Ryce explained, "I see in Erie County real challenges in the leadership of the Democratic Party and a need for a strong, unified Party. I am a lifelong Democrat who believes in the platform and ideals upheld by the Democratic Party."

Ms. Ryce went on to explain that, "I come from the business community. I am not an insider and have no political agenda, but rather a woman who understands business and believes that government has a role to play to support businesses and create jobs."

At the announcement today Ms.Ryce was surrounded by a diverse group of Democrats who enthusiastically support her candidacy.  Ms. Ryce describes herself as a political outsider and that was evidenced today in the absence of elected officials at her side as she made her speech.

Ms. Ryce, who lives in Amherst, sees an opportunity for the members of the Democratic Party who are looking for an option to the current Party leadership to consider supporting her candidacy.   She plans to reach out to leaders of the Party in the coming days and to directly appeal to the elected committee members who will vote for the Party Chair at a re-organizational meeting to be called by the current Chair in the near future.

"I am honored with this opportunity," Ms. Ryce said.  "I believe in applying my successful approach towards business to building the Erie County Democratic Party. I will guide the Party using proven, successful business practices, and honoring life's long lessons and values which I have adopted as my company's "core values" including Teamwork, Customer Service, Diversity, Safety, Quality and Integrity.
