Tribute: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Geoff Richter" at Williamsville North High School.

Geoff, one of our band's founding co-directors, was a pillar in the Western New York music community as a teacher, trumpet player, and conductor. A career-long band director at Williamsville North, Geoff played trumpet professionally as a founding member of the Frankfurters German band, in symphony orchestras, and everywhere in between. He also spent years directing community bands and orchestras, including the Amherst Symphony, Erie County Wind Ensemble, and the Buffalo Niagara Concert Band.

Just two weeks after the BNCB's landmark joint concert with the Los Angeles Winds, Geoff passed away suddenly in May 2010. Almost immediately, the members of our band began calling for the commission of a new composition in Geoff's honor - a call which was answered.

The new piece, coincidentally titledTribute, was written for our band by Los Angeles-based

composer Michael Kibbe and will be premiered at next May's concert.

In addition to the world premiere ofTribute, the concert will feature music ranging from J.S.

Bach to John Williams (each selection with a special connection to Geoff), presentations to the

first recipient(s) of awards from the Geoff Richter Performing Arts Fund, and more. Over 100

musicians will participate in the concert, including the BNCB, Music Director Amy J. Steiner,

guest conductors John Maguda and Jim Pace, and other guest musicians. Following the

concert, the 2nd annual "Richterfest" will be hosted by the organizers of the Performing Arts

Fund. Over 1,000 attendees made this year's "Richterfest" an unforgettable event and the 2012

edition will certainly contribute to making May 11, 2012 just as memorable.

This whole evening will be one to remember and requires a tremendous amount of preparation.

It will also come with a price tag - our fundraising goal is $15,000. As a 501(c)3 non-profit

organization, we rely entirely on donations and fundraising by our all-volunteer membership to

pay our bills. In addition to funds being raised directly by band members, we are also offering

sponsorship opportunities.

There are four levels of sponsorship packages available, as outlined on the enclosed

sponsorship detail page. You may select the level of participation that best suits your needs,

and be secure in the knowledge that your sponsorship fee will be used to help the BNCB host a

night for musicians, teachers, students, and music lovers to remember Geoff Richter and

everything he did for the Western New York community.

We are grateful for your support and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thank you in advance for your willingness to support the efforts of the Buffalo Niagara Concert

Band to make a difference in our community.
