Buffalo, New York – August 28, 2009 - The U.S. Small Business Administration in Washington, D.C.  has selected SLR Contracting & Service Company, Inc. of Buffalo, NY, a General Construction Company, specializing in Commercial Construction, Construction Management and Design-Build services, to receive the 2009 8(a) Graduate Firm of the Year Award.  The 8(a) Business Development Program provides management and technical assistance, and assistance in identifying federal contacting opportunities to socially and economically disadvantaged businesses.   


The award was presented to company President, Sundra L. Ryce during the Annual National Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week Conference, held in Washington, DC.   This marks the 27th year that the SBA has joined the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency as a partner to highlight the achievements of minority-owned business.  This year’s theme was “Energizing the American Economy with Minority Business Enterprises”. 


Ms. Ryce received the award on behalf of the company during the SBA Administrator’s Luncheon at the conference, in Washington, DC.  The event was highlighted by a White House reception where Ms. Ryce was greeted by Vice President Joe Biden and the U.S. Secretary of Commerce.


“It has been a rewarding experience to be involved in the 8(a) Business Development Program.  I am pleased that SLR has been selected to receive this national recognition.   This is a tremendous honor and I am delighted to accept the award on behalf of our company,” explained Ryce.  The SBA Buffalo District Office is also planning a local press conference to be held at the offices of SLR Contracting & Service Company, Inc. in September
