Emerging Business Leaders into 2011
Last year, the Amherst Chamber of Commerce launched the Emerging Business Leaders, an initiative for young professionals in Western New York, to fill a void identified by our members. The Advisory Board has been regularly meeting over the past 6 months to get the program off the ground and held their kick-off event in October.
In an effort to have more member involvement, the Advisory Board and Chamber liaisons have created three committees that will be facilitated by the Advisory Board. The committees include leadership training, skill development and synergistic relationships. Members on each committee will be responsible for developing and implementing event ideas that correspond with their area of interest. The leadership committee will be responsible for planning events that provide tangible tools to grow the leadership skills of every participant. The skill development committee will be responsible for providing fun, interactive programs that increase and diversify the skill sets of all participants. The synergistic relationships committee will be responsible for planning events to increase each member's sphere of influence through diverse and unique networking opportunities.
Over the last few weeks, the Advisory Board & Chamber have also been planning the first six months of events for 2011. Once the committees are formed, they will be planning the remainder of events in 2011 for the Emerging Business Leaders. There will be one event each month that corresponds with one of the three committee topics as well as one "Food For Thought" meal each month with a company executive. Scheduled events for 2011 are as follows:
- January 18, 2011- Networking Event at Pettibones Grille, Coca-Cola Field
- February 10, 2011- Rescheduled "The Athletic Leader" Workshop at Miller Tennis Center
- March 2011- First Annual Speaker Series Event
- April 2011- "Through Your Bosses Eyes" Workshop
- May 13, 2011- "Business Etiquette" Workshop presented by John Bourdage, in conjunction with the Amherst Chamber of Commerce's Business Resource Council
- June 2011- Networking Event, location TBD
The Emerging Business Leaders hopes that attendees of these events will leave with skills & knowledge that they can instantly implement in their workplace.
