'Tools For Prosperity' Brings Variety of Topics to Members


Over the past few years, the Amherst Chamber of Commerce has held numerous "Member Education Workshop" semesters, with presentations on topics from web development to tax credits. This summer, after feedback from our membership, the Business Resource Council decided to revamp the workshop structure. Beginning this September, we will hold our "Tools For Prosperity" workshop series on the first Thursday of each month. These workshops will be held at Trocaire College's Russell J. Salvatore School of Hospitality and Business located at 14 Freeman Street in Lancaster from 8:30am until 10:00am.


The series will kick-off on September 1st with "Health Insurance Exchanges: A Marketplace for the Future" a presentation by Benefits Consultant John Cureo from Lawley Benefits. At the end of the 2011 Legislative Session, the NYS Assembly passed A08514, a bill which establishes the governance and structure for the New York Health Benefit Exchange. This workshop will discuss all of the possibilities and ways the exchange will affect business owners and employees when it comes to health insurance. This is ideal for HR managers, CFOs, small business owners and anyone in charge of employee benefits.


On October 6th, Employer Services Corporation's Janet Owczarczak and Elizabeth Warren will present "Maintaining High Performance in the Workplace in the New Age of Social Media". Every technological advancement presents a unique challenge for leaders of organizations of all sizes. This presentation will focus on social media trends and issues confronting workplaces today and the efforts and measures utilized by successful employers in dealing with and adapting to these challenges. This is a great workshop for business owners, general managers and anyone in charge of setting policy in the workplace.


On November 3rd, Patricia McGee of McGee Coaching will present "Everything Communicates". This workshop will focus on the development of communication skills and is perfect for business owners, managers and employees. Many people do not realize that what you do is often more important to communication than what you say. The workplace involves constant interaction with both co-workers and clients. With over 20 years in business management experience, Patricia will help attendees develop awareness and build skills that include active listening, giving feedback and the different communication styles a person may encounter.


On December 1st, Joel Colombo of 360PSG will present "Where Am I? When Google Controls Your Prospects". This workshop is an executive overview of what makes search engines put your company's site on top. Many business owners throw money into the development of a website without knowing what how they will measure the ROI. Joel will discuss what attracts or detracts Google searchers and how to track the ROI from your website. This workshop is perfect for small business owners, marketing managers or anyone tasked with generating leads and gathering ROI on marketing.
