MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
Congratulations to all of the honorees from The Event! It was another successful Chamber function that once again displayed the reach of our organization across the region.
It's hard to believe that 2016 is coming to a close, but the good news is that we are closer to unveiling the Chamber's strategic plan. It has been a difficult and challenging process, but it is coming to a conclusion.
As part of our strategic planning process, we were fortunate to be able to participate in a half day retreat in early October with Mick Flemming who is president of the American Association of Chamber Executives. The presentation he made and the ensuing discussion was very helpful in terms of where we currently are as an organization and where we want to be now and in the future. Both are important components in finalizing the strategic plan.
Mick had some interesting observations that I don't think he would mind me sharing. For one, he commented about the sense of pride that permeated the discussion as a result of economic resurgence occurring in our region. He also thought it was "amazing" that there were not a lot of complaints or frustration vented with the public policy process as that seems to be a constant refrain in his visits with other chambers across the country.
I think this can be attributed to the fact that advocacy and public policy are in our wheel house and that we maintain excellent working relationships with elected officials at all levels of government. It doesn't hurt that we have an exceptional committee of public policy experts who serve on the Public Policy Council.
Overall, the session confirmed to the Chamber board members who participated, that we have some challenges but we are on the right path toward sustaining an important role in the region's business landscape.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
