Proposed Rate Decrease for Independent Health's 2016
Small Group and Individual Products

Recently, all New York State health insurance companies had to submit their proposed 2016 rates to the New York State Department of Financial Services. We're pleased to have submitted rate decreases on all of our small group and individual products for 2016. The New York State Department of Financial Services may approve, modify or disapprove the rates we have submitted.

Through our partnerships with The Primary Connection and Catholic Medical Partners to better coordinate and deliver care, as well as our innovative product and benefit offerings designed to engage our members in their health, we're making incremental progress in lowering medical cost trends.  Along with our partnerships with physicians and other providers, our collaborative community programs and partnerships with a wide range of local organizations are raising the public's awareness about the importance of making informed health choices.

In additional, our comprehensive benefits like $0 preventive services include unique health and wellness benefits provide our members with the tools and resources they need to make it easier to manage their health and lead a healthier life.

We anticipate our rate approval in late summer or early fall, and will send out a confirmation of the approved 2016 rates at least 60 days before our groups' and individuals' renewal dates. We will also be able to share information about our 2016 plan options around that same time.

As a reminder, in the April Health Care Corner, we shared that in response to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), New York State will be changing the definition of a small group in 2016. Currently, a business with 50 or fewer Western New York eligibles is considered a small group. However, effective January 1, 2016, a small group will be defined as a business with 100 or fewer full-time equivalent employees (FTEEs) nationwide. To learn more about this change, how you can determine your group size and what options are available to you, visit our Small Group Definition Tip Sheet.
