Member Success Showcase: Hearing Evaluation Services
The Amherst Chamber of Commerce Business Resource Council is pleased to announce that Hearing Evaluation Services has been selected to receive the 2013 1st Quarter Member Success Showcase Award. Hearing Evaluation Services was nominated for the award due to their recognition not only in our community but throughout the State for their excellence and expertise, their status as the only non-profit hearing center in New York State and the establishment of a foundation which provides hearing aids and hearing services to low-income individuals or those that are unable to afford it.
To be eligible for a Member Success Showcase Award, businesses must be members in good standing of the Amherst Chamber, a small business with under 100 employees, and be established in business for two or more years with some proven success in its industry or in the community.
The Award will be presented to Hearing Evaluation Services at the January Business After Hours event, held on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Corner Bakery Cafe, located at 1551 Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst. Business After Hours runs from 5pm - 7pm and is open to all members of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce. For more information, or to register for this event, please visit our website.
Hearing Evaluation Services of Buffalo (HES) is a very unique organization as it is the only free standing non-profit audiology practice in the country. HES is staffed with eight Doctors of Audiology committed to providing superior ethical solutions to hearing or balance impaired individuals in Western New York (WNY). This is accomplished by pairing highly trained and compassionate staff with top of the line test equipment and advanced hearing device technology. Our audiologists provide diagnostic, rehabilitative and counseling services at our Amherst, Williamsville, Tonawanda and Orchard Park offices.
HES was founded in 1981 by audiologist Tom White. Tom founded HES to ensure that there was a place in WNY where individuals could receive honest information about their hearing loss and would be fit with devices in a highly ethical manner. From the beginning, HES has verified every hearing device setting to ensure that it meets each individuals hearing needs and improves their quality of life.
In 2000, Tom White retired from the organization and Dr. Ann Stadelmaier was named Executive Director. Dr. Stadelmaier expanded HES's services by incorporating testing for those with dizziness and balance problems. She also developed an Industrial Hearing Conservation Program in 2002. HES unfortunately lost Dr. Stadelmaier to cancer in 2006 at which time Dr. Anne Orsene was named Executive Director. Dr. Orsene, along with members of the HES staff, founded the Dr. Ann Stadelmaier Hearing Aid Fund in 2006. This Fund, with the assistance of over 30 local Lion's Clubs, has helped over 150 individuals in financial need obtain a new hearing device and reach their goal of better hearing.
Dr. Orsene is committed to expanding the organizations services to assist as many individuals as possible in WNY. HES uses the latest test equipment available to ensure accurate testing for infants and children of all ages and provides the highest level of pediatric audiological services available in WNY. Dr. Orsene also collaborated with neurologist, Dr. Lixin Zhang, at the Dent Neurologic Institute to create the Dizziness and Balance Center, which began seeing patients in 2009. This center offers the highest level of service in the region to serve those with dizziness and balance disorders.
The organization currently operates out of four HES locations, two BOG offices and Dent Neurology. HES continues to expand its diagnostic services and outreach throughout Western New York. In 2012, Dr. Orsene was appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to the New York State Hearing Aid Dispensing Advisory Board. Dr. Orsene hopes to improve the level of dispensing in NYS so that all hearing impaired individuals receive the same high level of audiology care as the patients at HES have always received.
