Changing of the Guard
The Chairmanship of the Chamber will change this month at our Annual Luncheon as current Chair David Flynn hands the gavel over to incoming Chair David Donovan. David Flynn has been an active, participatory Chairman who has provided professional guidance to the staff and leadership support to both the President and the Board of Directors. As a Partner and practicing attorney with Phillips Lytle, David had the regional knowledge and stewardship capabilities that resulted in his term being one that helped further solidify the Amherst Chamber of Commerce as a Suburban Chamber with a Regional Vision. In addition to his multiple responsibilities with the Chamber, he was appointed to the Regional Economic Development Council Energy Committee. While David will be leaving us as Chairman, he will stay actively involved as he mobilizes a new initiative - The Chairman's Circle. This group, made up of all past Chairman still in the region, will focus on regional initiatives and be mobilized as a task force on timely issues where their organizational knowledge will be beneficial.
David Donovan, a Vice President at Independent Health, will be installed as the 2013 Chairman of the Board at the Annual Luncheon. In anticipation of his term, David has spent a lot of time meeting with the President, the staff and members of the Board to identify and flush out the focus of his leadership and incorporate it into our strategic priorities. Given the changes that Health Care Reform will have on our members and on our organization, the timing couldn't be better for David's leadership and knowledge.
2013 will bring many changes but it is gratifying to have our loyal veteran leadership continue to provide support and remain engaged as we welcome new leadership and new ideas to the Chamber. Late last year, Business First identified the Amherst Chamber of Commerce as the largest Chamber in the region. Maintaining our membership base as a result of a high renewal rate and combining that with the new members who reach out to us because of their recognition for our benefits menu and delivery system is what has served us well in the past and will continue to serve our community and members well in the future.
