A Suburban Chamber with a Regional Vision
About ten years ago, the Amherst Chamber of Commerce coined the tagline, A Suburban Chamber with a Regional Vision. It seemed an appropriate title when we realized that over 35% of our membership was based outside of Amherst. In fact, our staff recently reported that we currently service members from 77 different zip codes. We don't solicit members outside our borders, however, because of the broad base of business services we provide and the leadership position we take on public policy at the local, state and federal level, businesses from across Buffalo-Niagara elect to join our organization.
As we have grown, the need for more services has expanded. Small firms and sole proprietors take advantage of the complimentary networking groups (ProNet) that we facilitate. Currently over 200 individuals participate in these industry exclusive groups. Our monthly Business After Hours enjoys attendance by small business representatives and CEO's of major firms. Each demographic takes pride in their ownership in the organization.
Our committees and councils also realize the advantage of our diverse membership. Membership in these groups; Business Resource Council, Public Advocacy Council and Emerging Business Leaders is open to any member or their representative in good standing. Kim Whelan, our Account Executive, orients new and existing members on the focus of these leadership groups.
Our Board of Directors exemplifies our culture of inclusion. An at home business professional and a CEO of a regional utility sit side by side and help us create positions on public policy, monitor our budget and roll out our annual strategic plan. If you would like to be considered for a position on our Board of Directors, please forward us your name and biography by September 30, 2010. The Nominating Committee will review all requests for consideration and develop a slate that insures we have industry diversity, geographic representation and different sized businesses at the table.
Amherst is a Western New York hub. Our prosperity is directly linked to the region's prosperity. We support all sectors of our region and work together with regional and community leadership to ensure the residents and businesses we represent are provided with an opportunity and the tools to maximize that opportunity. We have no aspirations to be the regional chamber - we simply strive to fill the void that exists relative to business services, collaboration and regional vision. Please utilize the Amherst Chamber of Commerce as a vehicle to ensure your success. Call Kim Whelan to learn more about making sure you get a return on your investment today at716.632.6905.
