Wendel namesnew Director of Design

An architect with an international reputation for his work in the design and project management of hotels, resorts, public transportation facilities and casinos around the world, has been named Director of Design for the Wendel Companies, headquartered in Amherst, NY.The architect, Shlomo Shyovitz, former Director of Planning and Design for Marriott International, has worked on projects in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Prague and Warsaw in Eastern Europe as well as in the UK, Middle East, China, Hong Kong, and other countries around the world.
Prior to that, he served as Senior Architect for the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WAMATA) where he supervised transit station and facility design and collaborated with State and Local jurisdictions to develop urban design studies and long-range planning for WAMATA's expansion.
At Wendel, Shyovitz will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of design and for mentoring younger architects. In addition, he will be involved in new business development efforts. "He brings to our firm world-class architectural design and management accomplishments in large, complex projects, and a unique combination of hospitality and transit experience," observed Donald E. Gray, a principal at Wendel.
Shyovitz was most recently vice president at the Friedmutter Group, a Las Vegas-based architecture and design firm specializing in hotels and casinos. While there, he worked as principal on projects in Hungary, Dubai, Singapore, Atlantic City, and Las Vegas. He also spent several years at the helm of his own hospitality design consulting firm leading national and international projects.
An architecture graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, he also received a master's degree in Urban Design from Harvard University's Graduate School of Design.
Wendel is a nationally recognized design firm composed of three companies, Wendel Duchscherer Architects and Engineers, PC; Wendel Energy Services, LLC; and Wendel Construction Inc.. The firm is headquartered in Amherst, NY and operates regional offices serving Long Island, NY, Richmond, VA and Washington DC.
