Program Description

 

 

This program is intended to provide funding for worthy small businesses in Western New York that will enable them to grow and become more successful. Funding will come from residuals earned from the Amherst Chamber's Member Benefit Program. Award amounts will range from $5,000 to $25,000.

 

Recipients will be selected twice per year in the months of February and October based on the overall merit of their application. Nominees will be selected by the BRC Grant Committee from applications received. The final selection will be made by majority vote of the full Business Resource Council. Grant funds will be distributed the first business day of the month.

 

 

 

Eligibility Requirements

 

 

  • Privately held company with under 5 million dollars in sales.
  • Current Amherst Chamber of Commerce member; in good standing for at least two years, having filed corporate taxes for three years.
  • Credit worthy and profitable.
  • Applicants must complete the grant application, including an up to date business plan and current financial statements.
  • Agree to obtain services, where possible, from an Amherst Chamber member.
  • Agree to provide a detailed report with appropriate documentation, photographs, ect., to verify expenditures and outcomes.
  • Provide Chamber with written testimonial letter following completion of the initiative.
  • Upon request from the Chamber, participate in media and promotional activities connected with the grant award.

 

 

 

Criteria

 

 

I. Marketing

 

a.)    Grant dollars must be applied to an activity that promotes the company's business, products and services with the goal being to increase sales revenue.

b.)    Maximum dollars allowable: $25,000

c.)    Examples of eligible marketing initiatives:

 

-Redesign store window display

-Print, radio, TV ad campaign (design, placement)

            -Web design-either new or update

            -Special event: customer appreciation, grand opening or customer seminar

            -Training/education or seminar selling

            -Direct mail campaign: mail list, design or printing

            -Public relations: design and create a press kit

            -Newsletter or web marketing campaign

            -Signage: in store, banners, exterior signage, ect.

 

II. Technology

 

a.)    Grant must be used to:

 

-add efficiency and productivity

-reduce operating costs

-increase competitiveness

-raise level of customer service

-enter new markets

-improve current products or create new ones

 

b.)    Examples

 

-new or upgraded computer hardware

-new or upgraded computer software

-specialized technical education or certification

-professional consulting training
