Join Us on a Roman Holiday!
Want your own Roman Holiday? Experience Audrey Hepburn’s Rome on the Chamber’s trip to Tuscany in September! While on your 11-day tour of the Tuscan countryside, you’ll spend two days exploring Rome.
The Amherst Chamber, along with Indus Travels, has created a comprehensive tour of Rome so our trip participants will see all that makes Rome so breathtaking. On your first day in Italy, we will spend the morning exploring the Vatican. The epicenter of the Roman Catholic faith, Vatican City is home to the Cardinal of Rome–better known as Pope Benedict XVI. The center of the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica draws pilgrims from all over the world. The Basilica’s center point is the vast dome painted by famous renaissance painter Michelangelo. With the added attractions of the Raphael Rooms and their wonderful collection of Classical Sculpture the Vatican is one of the finest museums in Rome.
After a morning spent at the Vatican, you’ll experience more of what makes Rome so special. You’ll spend your afternoon visiting the temple of Julius Caesar, Basilica Emilia, the Arch of Titus and the Holy Road, Villa Borghese, the Colosseum and the Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli which houses Michelangelo’s statue of Moses.
While visiting Villa Borghese, you’ll experience museums, a theatre, a bio park, a lake and numerous fountains throughout the land. The park area was originally a private vineyard that was redesigned in 1605. To this day, Villa Borghese remains a treasure for Romans and visitors alike. From the property’s graceful trees, to its relaxing fountains and evocative views of the city, it is the perfect place to relax and unwind in the bustling city of Rome.
Another highlight of your day in Rome is a visit to the world famous Colosseum. What you will see of the Colosseum is just a skeleton of what was at one time the greatest arena in the world. The amphitheatre could hold up to seventy thousand spectators, with not a single “bad seat” in the house.
Your second day in Rome will also be our last day in Tuscany. You’ll spend the evening at your leisure, where you will have plenty of time to explore the city, or perhaps find a secluded café and reflect upon your amazing journey through Tuscany.
