On Tuesday, December 13, 2011, Amherst Chamber President Colleen DiPirro sat front row as New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the NYSUNY 2020 Challenge Grant at the University at Buffalo's Center for the Arts.  The measure provides $35 million in funding for UB's plan to move its school of medicine and biomedical sciences from its current  location on South Campus to a new building on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus in downtown Buffalo.

The official signing came less than a week after the Western New York Regional Council was awarded $100.3 million in state funding for economic development projects.  Amherst Chamber President Colleen DiPirro served on this council.
